Fire coverage…
…through the California Fair Plan
If you are not able to obtain insurance coverage anywhere else, then the CA FAIR Plan is your last option.
The FAIR Plan website has a link to “Find a Broker.” We don’t know why these agents are listed. Some flat out state they were not interested. Others didn’t even respond to our inquires. And out of the first 14 we have reached out to only a handful said they might be able to assist with DIC (Differences In Conditions - coverage which becomes required when you are forced into the CA FAIR Plan). None had a reasonable option to the FAIR Plan and one said that they were no longer able to place mountain home owners with companies for the DIC coverage because the companies had all the were willing to cover.

An ongoing crisis…
…everyday we are hearing about more people having their insurance canceled, just recently we talked with a couple from the San Bernardino Mountains who had been with their insurance company for 48 years! Their story is particularly distressing not just because they were canceled but because of the terrible way they were treated by their long standing insurance agent!
Right now our focus is making sure that Insurance Commissioner Lara has the specific information they need about each individual situation. We have been told that the information we provide will be given directly to Commissioner Lara through their Ombudsman’s office.

FAIR Plan coverage includes:
Dwelling, Commercial and Earthquake coverage.
FAIR Plan coverage does not include:
Differences in Conditions which provide similar coverage to what you had with comprehensive homeowners insurance. This is required by most lenders!
We are hearing from agents that this coverage is becoming more difficult to obtain as well.
We are reaching out to a ranch of insurance agents to find out more for you. We will be featuring some of those who have graciously offered to provide information and direction.
Be Heard!
Please add your information below so we can make sure Commissioner Lara’s hears what we have to say!
